No or Low Cost DIY Instant Headboard Ideas For You!

Stole a couple more ideas from my bestie, Martha Stewart for a low or no cost home decor DIY project. Sure she won't mind. She has tons of great ideas. Instant headboard! Easy, cheap. My kinda date!

I'm loving this super simple quilt headboard idea. Just attach a decorative curtain rod to the wall and hang an old quilt. A family heirloom or a thrift shop find. You can also do curtains or any fabric. You can even swap it out when you get bored. Love this idea and I think I have myself talked into doing it in the master bedroom I don't use. I'll opt for a pair of cheap but pretty curtains, though. I'm not a quilt person. A tad "rustic" for me.

Here's the same concept using either curtains or fabric. Much more my personal style though what AI gave me is Hella ugly in my opinion. No taste! If/when I do it I'll post pics on Bluesky and try to remember to update this article with my own creation. It'll be over the top, I can assure you.

Keep going for the other idea I "borrowed" from Martha. An old door! Yes! An old door as a headboard. Genius! Surely you could find one at a garage sale or thrift shop, too, so cheap cheap cheap. The best kind of DIY!

AI went all shabby chic or abandoned haunted house on me on this one but I kinda like it. Martha suggested adding a strip of crown molding along the top edge to offer a neat finish and a handy spot for a small alarm clock or even decorative pieces. Books? I would! I'm guessing you wood filler the doorknob hole or just put it at the bottom where it won't show. Or leave one side of the knob on to hang shit on? Wow!

This one's too much work for me personally because there's more to mounting it than I care for. Martha's article says, to mount the headboard, cut a 1-by-4-inch board to the headboard's width, and then cut it lengthwise on a 45-degree angle into two equal strips. Securely screw one strip to the back of the door and attach the second to the wall so the angles interlock to hang the headboard. Keep the bottom of the headboard the same distance from the wall by screwing a 1-inch-thick strip to the back. Finish the top of the headboard by nailing on a mitered crown molding. Whew! I'm worn out just reading that. Can't just nail the sucker to the wall? Thanks for reading! Please share! There were some other cute ideas in the original article, too, so here's the link: 13 DIY Headboard Ideas.
