Does the NFL Really Need ALL Your Money? Save on Sports Entertainment

ree

I'm the first to admit I've never been a sports fan. Don't stop reading. Calm down. I'm just saying I never understood the allure of spending money on memorabilia and tickets and yadda yadda, but I do understand its woven into American culture, so I've been thinking of ways to save money on sports entertainment.

My first brilliant idea is to skip the big venues and support minor league, college and even high school teams in your area. I'm right across the river from Evansville Indiana which is home to the Evansville Otters who play at Bosse Field Stadium where part of A League of Their Own was filmed when I was in college. A college friend of mine even touched Madonna's butt in a gay club but that's another story for another time. The Otters are a minor league team and I would actually love to go see a game, even as a non sports fan with no interest in baseball. I just think it would be a really cool overall experience and a nice outing that wouldn't break the bank. If you're lucky enough to have minor league sports teams in your area, go see them. Show them some love and support. Become a fan. Same with college and high school teams. It might not be the NFL, but it's not going to set you back as much as a trip to one of their games would, either.

Another idea to save on sports entertainment is to cut the cord and drop the streaming. There are ways around paid viewing these days. You just have to be a little creative, network with some folks online who know tech tricks and I bet you can find a way to catch the big game without paying for it. Can't go too much into that because of trickly legal issues but hopefully you catch what I'm throwing down. You could also get in some much needed socialization by not paying to watch the games at home and heading to a sports bar or other venue that shows the games you want to see. Hang out with some buddies or make new ones. Wow. What a concept. You don't have to spend a fortune drinking yourself into oblivion or ordering a bunch of food which would defeat the whole money saving purpose.

As far as memorabilia and team gear like branded tees and sweatshirts, hats, etc. you could always look at thrift shops or online for gently used items. That tee shirt you shell out big bucks for directly from the NFL shop is used the second you slip it on for the first time, so what's the big deal? There are probably some die hard collectors who want the stuff with the original tags and such but if that's not you, skip paying full price directly from the brand.

Of course I had to check with my research assistant, DuckDuckGo Search Assist for some more ideas because sports is outside my usual realm of anything. A few more good tips on saving money on sports entertainment include watching games at home with friends instead of attending in person, or looking for discounted tickets and group rates for live events. Additionally, eating before you go and using public transportation can help reduce costs significantly. Good solid ideas. Thanks, DuckDuckGo! Thanks for reading and I hope you found an idea or two that could help you out on saving money on sports entertainment.

And lookie here! My fave money saving alternative to ScAmazon has officially licensed sports team stuff. Wow! Check out Temu instead of the official merch shops.
