Yes, you can.
Why avoid Amazon? (From Ethical Consumer)
Amazon has been accused of everything from firing employees for calling out its unsafe conditions to offering services to fossil fuel giants. You can find out more about reasons to avoid the company in our '10 reasons to avoid Amazon' article.
The billion-dollar company scores a spectacular 16 out of 100 in our ratings based on its ethical and environmental record and comes at the near bottom of most tables where they feature. (See below for a full list of guides that feature Amazon).
Our boycott focuses on Amazon’s staggering tax avoidance. Our research has calculated that in 2023, Amazon’s tax avoidance may have cost around £433million to the UK’s public purse.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s monopolistic behaviour threatens small businesses trying to do better. Our guides below include more ethical options, so you can ensure you’re not supporting this arch tax avoider while channelling your money to more ethical companies.
The above information is from the UK, but Amazon is Amazon globally and just as egregious in their US operations. It's long past time to quit them and Jeff Bezos, Trump and Musk ass kisser. But where can you shop online instead? So many places. I personally have completely replaced Amazon with Temu. There are a lot of people bad mouthing Temu for various reasons, but I've not had a single bad experience with their service, products, pricing, delivery or anything else. They've even recently added clear labels to products that are delivered from within the United States. If it says "local" or "local warehouse," it ships from a US supplier. I doubt that necessarily means the items are MADE in the US, but at least they ship from within our own country.
There are Etsy shops. Etsy itself isn't the greatest or most ethical company from what I've read, but those selling on it are independent, average, everyday people. Much better to support them than a giant mega corporation like Amazon who's using your money against you. You can also buy from regular people on PoshMark and Mercari where people sell new and used items with such variety that you should be able to find nearly anything you can imagine. Often at incredible bargain prices if you just take the time to shop around a little.
Many of the products found on Amazon can also be ordered directly from the manufacturer, without the markup Amazon puts on them to pad their profit margins. Bonus. A minimum amount of searching can help you discover those manufacturers or brands and take you right to their site for easy ordering.
Long story short, the endless excuses of why you just can't quit Amazon aren't really cutting it anymore. Do a little work. Stop selling your soul for convenience. Your thoughts? Drop them below.
