I kept seeing this headline about things to do for those who don't celebrate holidays. The picture included showed me it's basically the same old stuff like going out to eat Chinese food, going ice skating, going to a movie. All things that cost money and require transportation. So, I decided to write this article for people like me. Alone, broke and without transportation options.
Admittedly, being broke and stranded at home limits your options, but there are still ways to survive the holidays with sanity at least mildly intact. Here are a few ideas I came up with and hopefully readers can add some of their own in comments.

Have your very own movie marathon or binge watch a favorite series. A great free option for streaming is Fawesome TV. It's basically all I watch anymore and has a lot of great options with tons of genres to choose from. There are infrequent, short commercial breaks in some programs, but not all. Make it more like a theater experience with popcorn or whatever snacks and beverages you have on hand. Cozy up on the couch with your favorite comfy throw and enjoy. Keep your selections light and upbeat if you're feeling down like some classic comedies or whatever generally boosts your mood.
Catch up on some reading. Crack open those new books you haven't gotten around to or revisit an old favorite. Hey, I know a really good book you could read. Mine! Shameless self promotion. Why the Willow Weeps by Bruce Coffman.
Another great idea would be to spend some time creating your own cozy reading nook. You don't have to have an entire room to devote to the trending reading room that's all over the internet. Use a corner of your living room or bedroom. I have an entire article with tips on how to do it on a budget or without spending a penny. How to reading nook article here.
Even if you don't celebrate the holidays, appropriate some of the trappings like baking. They don't have to be Christmas cookies. They can just be cookies. There are no rules. I have a great Martha Stewart snickerdoodle cookie recipe you could try. Speaking of recipes, there are great budget friendly recipes here. Check out the blog and see if anything tickles your fancy. Maybe have a kitchen experiment day and whip up something new.
Another idea for alone time during the holidays is to pamper yourself with a spa day. Just gather up any smell good relaxing candles you already have, light up the bathroom with them, take a nice bubble bath or soothing shower, slather on some skin care and relax. Ahhhh... Speaking of skincare, check out the great article I wrote on the four best Korean facial cleansers. From Avon, of course, so totes budget friendly. And your skin will thank you.
Yet another idea is to spend a day doing some crafting if you find that relaxing or enjoyable. Use supplies you already have on hand and haven't incorporated into projects yet. You could even try the super cute old dresser to doll house project.
Do you have other ideas to share? What works for you? Drop some comments. Thanks for reading!
