How to Be a Rock Star

Honeys, there is way too much going on in the world and especially America right now to keep us down, scared, angry. We need to all dig deep and find our inner Rock Star to rise above it all. How? Take a page from Dolly Parton's book on how to human.

First and foremost, she is herself. All the time. Yes, she puts on with the exaggerated hyper-sexuality and over the top almost drag queen personae. But she embraces and never caves on her core values. As one of her famous quotes says, and I paraphrase, find out who you want to be and be it on purpose.

Purpose. That's a big word. We all need purpose in life to drive us, give us self worth and keep us strong. It's not as hard to find purpose as we like to try and make it. What do you care about? What do you value? You already know. Just acknowledge and embrace those things. Then do what you can to support and protect them.

We all feel pretty helpless right now and wonder, "What can I do? How can I fight?" Well, little things, really. They all add up to have potentially major impact. You don't have to organize a march on the Capitol if you are simply unable to do something like that to have value and purpose in the fight for our country.

One little thing you can do easily is start eliminating your reliance on giant corporations who use your money against you. There are articles here on how to specifically quit Amazon that give good, simple tactics for how to reduce or eliminate your reliance on corporate monsters like Walmart and others. Supporting locally or indie owned businesses can have a major impact on your community and your friends and neighbors instead of feeding a billionaire's bottom line.

Tune out the legacy corporate media. There's an article here on some great independent alternatives to cable "news" and crap like Washington Post. There's also the news page on this site that gives constantly updated headlines from NPR, BBC News and other trustworthy sources. Free. No paywall crap. Legacy corporate media's constant sanewashing and propaganda spewing for the TrumpMusk regime is maddening. It will just bring you down. Tune it out.

You don't have to join a march if you're unable. You can call, write and email your elected officials from the comfort and security of your own home. There are articles here that link to specific areas they need to be contacted about, often with pre-written emails you can simply add your name to and click to send. And I'll keep them coming. Check back often. Make your voice heard. They don't know what we want and what we won't accept from them unless we tell them. Repeatedly, loudly.

And, finally, for now, just be as decent a human as you can and realize we all have our own personal struggles and we are in this together. We don't have to agree on every little thing, but we do have to love, respect and support one another or none of us will survive and have any hope of thriving.
